Dear Members, Dear insurance lawyers,

The bill of 16 May 2023 transposing the Directive (EU) 2019/1937 on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law has set a new legal framework in relation to the protection of whistleblowers. The bill created the Office for whistleblowers (“Office des signalements”) to help whistleblowers and monitor the implementation of the bill. It has appointed the CAA as insurance sector-specific authority to ensure compliance by insurance companies and to receive whistleblowers’ reports.

Mr Francis MAQUIL gave an introduction on the bill and explained the missions and expectations of the Office for whistleblowers.

Ms Valérie SCHEEPERS and Ms Eva GYORI detailed insurance sector-specific obligations and gave insights on how the CAA intends to check compliance by insurance companies.

Mr Peter VERMEULEN moderated the conference and gave some insights on setting up the required internal reporting mechanisms in an insurance company.
